Ottawa, Ontario Canadian Women’s World Cup Team head coach Even Pellerud today released his selection of players to compete in Canada’s home and away series against the United States on June 30 and July 3. Canada’s home game will take place at Varsity Stadium in Toronto at 7:00 p.m. on June 30. The United States will host Canada in Blaine, Minnesota on July 3 at the National Sports Center at 1:00 p.m. Full squads for both teams will be present as this marks the first time both teams have met since Canada’s 3-1 victory over the United States on November 11, 2000.
Canada’s Under-19 women’s team will face their US counterparts at 4:30 at Varsity Stadium on June 30 followed by a second match on July 2 at Birchmount Stadium in conjunction with the Robbie Tournament.
The game in Toronto will mark the first time Charmaine Hooper has played at home since became Canada’s all time leader for international appearances with 77 caps. Hooper broke Gerry Donnelly’s record of 72 caps on March 15, 2001 against Portugal during the 8th Algarve Cup. United States captain Julie Foudy could become the third player ever to achieve her 200th cap during the Canada-US series. If Foudy plays in either game, she will join the likes of Mia Hamm and Kristine Lilly who have achieved 216 and 265 caps respectively.
