Canada makes its debut at the 1989 FIFA Five-a-side World Championship (FIFA Futsal World Cup). Canada falls 1:3 to Argentina in its opening match at Sportcentrum Maaspoort in Netherlands. John Fitzgerald scores Canada’s first goal in a FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Canada wins 6:2 over Japan in its third and final match at the FIFA Five-a-side World Championship (FIFA Futsal World Cup) in Frieslandhal, NED. Six different players score for Canada, including John Fitzgerald who scores the winner.
