George Anderson

George McQueen Anderson... he was 20 years old when he moved to Canada, leaving Scotland on 1 June 1921 with the intent to find work (he sailed on the Metagama)... he was married to his wife Sadie (their children were George, Jack, Barbara)... he was 74 years old when he passed away in Vancouver, BC on 25 May 1975... buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver; cremated remains then disinterred in 1989 and brought to Occean View Cemetary in Burnaby...

posthumously honoured by the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame as a player... posthumously honoured by the Soccer Hall of Fame of British Columbia... part of the Canadian team that toured Australia for more than three months in 1924, recognised as a Canada Soccer Team of Distinction...

a three-time Dominion of Canada Championship winner (1928, 1930, 1936)...

as noted in 1924 in The Globe, “despite lack of weight, he plays full back at which position, because of his ability to kick with either foot, he is a stalwart”... as noted in a 1924 Brisbane program, he displayed “clean and sharp kicking; he is pretty to watch in action and is always dangerous”... as noted in 1928 in the Winnipeg Free Press, he was “frail but a deadly tackler and grand kicker”... as noted in 1934 in the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, he was “rated as one of the finest full backs in the game today”... as noted in 1936 in the Calgary Herald, he was “perhaps peerless in his position in the country”... as noted in 1950 in the Vancouver Sun, Anderson featured on Dave Turner’s all-time all-star team (Anderson “had brains enough for two”)... in 1950, his 1929 team Westminster Royals was named Canadian soccer’s “Best in 50 Years” in a poll by The Canadian Press...
